MONETA is a forty foot schooner, Built by David Hillyard in 1933 at his Little Hampton yard. Constructed of pitch pine planking on oak frames. Celtic Marine restored her at Deganwy between 1990 and 1993 using the West epoxy system. In her lifetime she has cruised far afield, to the Caribbean, Artic circle, at times experiencing Hurricane Force winds and huge seas, covering sometimes nearly 200miles in 24 hours. AS A SAILING SCHOOL VESSEL SHE IS OPERATED WITH A BRITISH CODE OF PRACTICE SAFETY CERTIFICATE.
DOWN BELOW You are comfortably accommodated in cabins with a GENUINE traditional feel.
THERE ARE MANY YACHTS DOING R.Y.A. COURSES, BUT FEW, in which you can experience living on a classic cruising yacht. Her rig lends its self to building up your knowledge of sails and the way that they are set. We start off with main and jib just like a sloop and build up from there. You will find that once you have been taught the correct principals for handling a boat in a confined space, that she handles just as easily as any other 40 footer, learn how to put her into that tight marina berth without bow thrusters, or the crew imitating Tarzan. The way we instruct, you’ll be hands on from the start, and with a multi sail rig, you wont get bored.
ON SUCCESSFULL COMPLETION OF YOUR R.Y.A. COURSE ON MONETA you will also recive Schooner Sailing,s unique Square sail certificate. To confirm that you have sailed in square sail and understand the basic use of braces, clewlines and buntlines.
